K. A. Excell writes novels and short stories from a place of deep belief that imagination is its own kind of defiance. She grew up on a western ranch, dreaming of dragons. She hasn't stopped.

Mission

Stories have always been how we make sense of the world — and how we survive it. Some of K. A. Excell's work asks what happens when authoritarianism and fundamentalist religion are left unchecked. Some of it exists as a deliberate exhale — a refuge against the noise. Both come from the belief that imagination is resistance and that readers deserve a place to rest.
